Documents, photographs, places, memories and key figures. The History of Skål is the journey undertaken by Sinergia Skål to piece together a history that began in 1958 and is still being written today.
Almost seven decades of history amount to much more than just dates. They leave behind names, photographs, documents, places, encounters, anecdotes and memories that help us understand where we come from.
Sinergia Skål opens open The History of Skål, a new space dedicated to preserving and sharing our history.
Back to the beginning
We want to go back to 1958 and find out how Skål Málaga-Costa del Sol came into being.
We want to bring back the international conferences that used to attract tourism professionals from all over the world to the Costa del Sol, and piece together the history of Calle Skål in Torremolinos, to remember the people who made each stage possible and to follow the path that would ultimately lead to Torremolinos becoming the global headquarters of Skål International.
But we don’t want to do this simply by compiling dates.
Let’s go and find the story
Let’s go and look for it wherever it’s still preserved.
In archives, photographs, letters, minutes, publications, programmes and personal mementos.
We will speak to those who lived through it, to those who have kept their documents, and to those who can still help us identify, date and contextualise many images and events.
Because behind every document there may be a story. And behind every story, there are people who helped build what we now know as Skål.
Some of these stories will be familiar. Others may have been tucked away for decades in a folder, a drawer or an old photo album.

Little by little, we will piece these fragments together, cross-checking the facts and turning those memories into stories worth sharing.
1958 will be our starting point
We’ll start by looking into the origins of Skål Málaga-Costa del Sol.
Who was there?
How it all began.
Which documents are kept?
What do those who knew the protagonists remember?
And from there, we will continue to explore a history that is closely linked to the development of tourism in Málaga and on the Costa del Sol.
We don’t yet know everything we’ll find.
And that, in fact, is part of the adventure.

The History of Skål was created to preserve our memories, but also to share them.
Because knowing where we come from helps us to better understand who we are.
1958 will be our starting point.
Whatever we come across along the way will be what comes next.
